Polarimetry in Star and Planet Formation Studies

Sebastian Wolf
Kiel University

Polarimetry from optical to millimeter wavelengths provides unique insights into the physical processes governing star and planet formation. Covering topics from star-forming molecular cloud cores to the structure of protoplanetary disks and the characterization of exoplanets, this overview highlights the broad diagnostic power of polarization measurements. Exemplary observational studies and numerical simulations illustrate how polarimetry can be used to investigate magnetic fields, dust properties, and the physical conditions in star- and planet-forming systems.
