Measuring stellar magnetic fields - what, how, and where?

Direct magnetic field diagnostics applied in the studies of stars with radiative envelopes are based on the Zeeman effect. I will briefly discuss the quantities measured, the methods and instruments used, and what we can deduce from these measurements. All of this in the framework of the Stokes formalism and the oblique rotator model.
