Magnetic Fields and CRE Transport in Galactic Halos: an Update

Cosmic ray (CR) acceleration on galactic scales inducing large scale winds is considered a significant contribution to the CR spectrum at higher energies. In this context the physics of galactic winds is of importance. CRs and magnetic fields contribute significantly to the total pressure of the ISM and thus influence the large scale distribution of the ISM and its evolution. Recent findings from radio-continuum polarization studies of edge-on galaxies on magnetic field strength and structure as well as the propagation of cosmic ray electrons (CREs) in galactic halos will be discussed. The detection of galaxy scale bubble-structures in the radio-continuum of several edge-on galaxies will be presented.
