Galactic Archaeology with 4MIDABLE-LR

4MIDABLE-LR is the flagship low-resolution 4MOST survey of the Milky Way disk and bulge, designed to provide a large-scale chemo-dynamical follow-up to Gaia across the southern sky. By combining Gaia-based target selection with the depth, multiplexing, and chemical information delivered by 4MOST, the survey will enable a detailed view of the Galaxy far beyond the volume and parameter space accessible with Gaia alone. The core goal of 4MIDABLE-LR is to understand how the Milky Way disk formed and evolved across space and time. The survey is specifically designed to map kinematic and chemical substructure in the disk and bulge with large, homogeneous samples and high precision. The combination of Gaia-based target selection with 4MOST spectroscopy will make it possible to address a wide range of Galactic archaeology questions across a much larger volume of the Milky Way than is currently accessible. This talk will will present some of the Galactic archaeology science cases that the survey will enable, including the migration history of the disk, the origin of the thick disk and high-[α/Fe] populations, and the reconstruction of the Milky Way disk’s spatially resolved star formation history. These examples highlight how 4MIDABLE-LR will provide the spectroscopic foundation needed to fully exploit Gaia for Galactic archaeology and, together with the complementary sky coverage of WEAVE, enable near all-sky studies of Milky Way structure and evolution.
