The Wigner interferometry as way to improve the angular resolution in observations

To decipher physics of supermassive black holes, we should be able to image them with the highest possible angular resolution. The angular resolution of any radio interferometer is limited by its capability to measure a shape of the coherent pattern of radiation arrived from a distant non-coherent source, e.g., a black hole. The scale and properties of this pattern are formulated in the van Cittert–Zernike theorem. The talk will highlight how this limitation can be potentially improved by exploiting a new type of correlations based on the Wigner distribution.
