Period variations of post-common envelope binaries

Many eclipsing post-common envelope binaries have been shown to experience period variations, which can be derived by measuring the times of the eclipses. There is different possibilites where these period variations could come from. One reason could be a third or even higher multiple body, which would have a planetary mass in most cases, which raised interest in those kind of systems. However, there are other theories related to the magnetic field of the companion, like magnetic braking, Applegate mechanism. We performed photemetric follow-up of about 20 post-CE systens over more than 5 years. In the talk we will show the results of this survey and will discuss the results.
