Puppis A is a Galactic supernova remnant (SNR), studied extensively in multiwavelength observations ranging from the radio band to gamma-rays. It exhibits a highly irregular, almost rectangular morphology in X-rays that is difficult to reconcile with standard models of SNR evolution in a uniform medium. This remnant therefore represents an important target for investigating how ambient environments shape the remnant morphology. In this work, we conducted 3D hydrodynamic simulations, modeling the interaction of Puppis A with an interstellar cloud towards the north-eastern edge of the remnant. These simulations allowed us to test whether the observed morphology and spectral characteristics can be primarily explained by evolution in an inhomogeneous medium. The overall goal is to find a physically motivated model, which is able to recreate the rectangular appearance of Puppis A sufficiently well, thereby constraining the geometry and density distribution of the surrounding environment through direct comparison with multiwavelength data. We present here preliminary results from this modeling effort and discuss their implications for interpreting the remnant’s structure.
